Viktor Tarnavskii

Viktor Tarnavskii. Looking for my next project.

About me

I've spent 15 years building tech.

I studied chip design and started my career in it. Then I spent 10 years at Yandex as an engineer and technical manager. I led Yandex Metrica and AppMetrica, analytics used by millions of businesses. I helped launch ClickHouse as open source, ran mobile development for apps with 50M+ DAU, and built Yango Deli, a quick-commerce grocery delivery service, as CTO and CPO.

For the last 3.5 years I worked as Head of AI at T-Bank (formerly Tinkoff), Russia's second-largest fintech by customers. I owned AI end to end: research, large language models, computer vision, speech, recommendations, platform, products, and business results. We built Gen-T, our own family of language models. My department generated over $100M in business impact every year.

But don't read that as ‘manager of hundreds.’ I like building things myself, I do it often, and I want to do more of it. This is the time for small, strong teams.

Beyond technology, I communicate well, speak publicly, and lead people. I understand different business models well and I know how to build complicated products. I also have a strong network among engineers.

What I'm looking for

I'm interested in industries where the product itself is complex intellectual work. Architecture and construction, product and industrial design, legal services, tax advisory, etc.

These industries carry a lot of inefficiency, and AI can make the end product dramatically better or faster. They are also defensible: deep domain expertise, proprietary data, trust, long-term contracts.

I want to be part of this, by one of two routes.

Join. An early-stage company, around Series A, with product-market fit and a technology bottleneck on the way to scale. I come in as the technology person with a meaningful stake.

Co-found. A company in one of these industries, with partners who have deep domain experience and strong networks and can own go-to-market. I own technology, and product if needed. And I'll do whatever else it takes.

A few things I'll rule out: fintech, game development, iGaming, and automation for sales, marketing, or support. Also any role at a company past 500 people.

Details

I'm based in London and plan to stay. Visa: Global Talent (Exceptional Talent).

Target markets: UK, US, EU.
